Meta Muse app: where to get it and how to set it up
The Meta Muse app is free to download on iPhone and iPad from the App Store and on Android from Google Play, where it is listed as "Muse from Meta" by Meta Platforms, Inc. There is also a Mac download on Meta's site and a web version at muse.ai. On launch day Meta said Muse was rolling out in the US; a later Meta post describes it as available in the US and Canada, and you must be 18 or older. This page lists the official places to get it, what you need before you sign in, the first settings to check, and what to do when the app won't install or open. For what Muse is in the first place, see What is Meta Muse?.
Checked against the official pages listed at the end, 2026-10-12. Muse Task Hub is an independent guide, not Muse.
Where to get the Meta Muse app
Meta's download page, ai.meta.com/muse/download, links to all of the official builds. Here is what each store showed when we checked on 12 October 2026.
- iPhone and iPad: Muse from Meta on the App Store. Free, with in-app purchases. It needs iOS 18.0 or later on iPhone and iPadOS 18.0 or later on iPad. iPad support arrived in version 10.2, released in October 2026. The App Store age rating is 18+.
- Android: Muse from Meta on Google Play (package name com.facebook.aura). Free, with in-app purchases. Google Play shows a Teen content rating, but Meta's Muse terms still require users to be 18, so the store rating does not lower the age limit.
- Mac: a "Download for macOS" button on Meta's download page, which serves a .dmg installer from Meta's own servers. We found no Mac App Store listing. The download page does not list a minimum macOS version.
- Web: the Muse web app at muse.ai, where you log in with a mobile number or email.
- WhatsApp: Meta says you can chat with Muse directly in WhatsApp. Meta's help pages don't give setup steps for it, so don't trust a WhatsApp number or link someone sends you.
Who can use it: region, age and account
Region. Meta's launch announcement on 8 September 2026 said Muse was rolling out in the US. Meta's 29 September post on Muse for Small Business calls it a personal AI agent available in the US and Canada. The Muse Help Centre adds that the app and website are not available everywhere yet, and some features may be missing in your area even where Muse is available. Apple's store data matches: the iOS app showed up in the US and Canadian App Stores and in none of the six other countries we checked, including the UK and India.
Age. The Muse Supplemental Terms say you cannot use Muse if you are under 18, or under a higher age where your country requires one.
Account. You sign in with a Meta account. Meta's getting-started article says that if you don't have one, you can create it from an existing Facebook or Instagram account or with an email address or phone number.
Meta Muse app setup after you sign in
Muse opens on the Chat tab. Check these settings first. Meta advises starting with low-risk tasks until you know how your agent behaves. Our how to use Meta Muse walkthrough covers the first week in more detail.
- Name and personality: Meta lets you name your Muse and shape how it talks. You can change this later just by telling it.
- Permissions: in Settings, then Permissions, choose "Always ask" if you want Muse to check with you before every action, or "Ask for some actions" if you only want it to check before write actions and important reads. Meta says that by default Muse won't take important actions, such as sending an email, without your approval.
- Connectors: in Settings, then Connectors, link only the apps you need for your first task. If your Facebook, Instagram and Threads accounts are in the same Accounts Centre, Meta says those three connect automatically.
- Data controls: Meta's Mac help page says the setting that lets Meta use your Muse interactions to improve its AI models is a toggle in Settings under Data controls.
- Logins: if a task needs a site login, add it to Muse's secure credential store one account at a time. See store account credentials.
What the Meta Muse Mac app asks for
Meta's help article on the Mac app says it can find and organise files and read information from apps on your Mac, such as Messages, Notes, Reminders, Mail and Calendar. To do that it asks for three macOS permissions, which macOS controls, not Meta: Full Disk Access, Automation, and Notifications. During setup you choose Off, Read only, or Read and interact for each app that keeps data on your Mac. To turn computer use off completely, remove those permissions in System Settings under Privacy & Security. Meta notes that Full Disk Access covers every file on the Mac.
Safe-download checks
- The seller should read Meta Platforms, Inc. on both stores. Other apps use the Muse name: on the App Store, "Muse: Your Inner Guide" is from Bypass Incorporated, and on Google Play, "Muse: Brain Health & Sleep" is from Interaxon. Neither is Meta's agent.
- Get the Mac installer only from Meta's download page. Don't use mirror sites or download portals.
When the app won't install, open or keep working
- Not in your store: Meta has only said Muse is available in the US and Canada. Outside those countries the listing may not appear at all.
- Install blocked on iPhone or iPad: check that you're on iOS or iPadOS 18.0 or later.
- No alerts from the Mac app: check that Muse has the Notifications permission in macOS System Settings.
- Muse stops mid-week: the free plan has a usage limit. Meta's help page says you can wait for it to refresh or upgrade; plan details are on our Meta Muse pricing guide.
- Deleting the app to stop a subscription: Meta's help page says signing out or deleting the app does not cancel a Muse subscription. Cancel it in Settings, or through Apple or Google if that's where you subscribed.
